Amazon provides AI heavyweight Andrew Ng to board of administrators as Jassy says it might be greatest tech breakthrough ‘maybe because the web’

Amazon is including synthetic intelligence visionary Andrew Ng to its board of administrators, a transfer that comes amid intense AI competitors amongst startups and large know-how firms.

The Seattle firm stated Thursday that Ng, a managing director on the Palo Alto, California-based AI Fund, will change a seat vacated by Judy McGrath, a former CEO of MTV who advised Amazon she received’t run for reelection.

Ng’s AI Fund, which he based in 2017, invests in entrepreneurs constructing synthetic intelligence firms. Beforehand, he led AI groups on the Chinese language tech firm Baidu and Google, the place the group he oversaw taught a pc system to acknowledge cats in YouTube movies with out ever being taught what a cat was.

Ng’s addition to the board comes as Amazon, like different tech firms, makes large investments in generative synthetic intelligence.

In his annual shareholder letter launched on Thursday, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy advised the know-how could possibly be the subsequent large pillar of Amazon’s enterprise, becoming a member of the corporate’s distinguished on-line market, Prime subscription program and its cloud computing unit AWS. Jassy wrote generative AI stands out as the the biggest technological transformation since cloud computing, and “maybe because the web.”
